South Asian Theatre Mela 2022

South Asian Theatre Mela

The South Asian Theatre Mela (SATM) presented two plays on the theme of ‘South Asian Women Speak’ on 3rd and 4th November, 2022.

Your Choice and Chains of Freedom were performed by a talented bank of actors, making powerful, inspiring statements on women’s rights.

Neel Banerjee, Founder and CEO of Nautanki curated the festival, and enjoyed working with Jyotsna Jyoti and Suparna Bobby, directors of the play and their teams. “Curating the SATF is one of the highlights of my year, the directors have done amazing work with these two short plays,” said Neel.

The South Asian Theatre Mela as it will now be called,  was very well attended and it was heartening to see so many theatre enthusiasts supporting the plays.

This year, Nautanki and SATM experimented with the form and content, which were very well received.

Nautanki will be looking forward to new themes for the 2023 Mela, which will be in its 8th year of showcasing performances from South Asian creatives and talent.
