10th SOUTH ASIAN THEATRE MELA – 2025

A celebration in South Asian style, transcending cultural and geographical boundaries.

Nautanki Theatre endeavours to provide a common performing platform, encouraging cross-cultural exchange and community engagement. Theatre Mela is a homegrown concept that reimagines grassroots South Asian theatre groups and indie artists in Australia. This flagship project was conceived, established, and developed in Parramatta by Nautanki in partnership with Riverside Theatre in 2016. For 2025, Nautanki Theatre encourages indie artists, creative groups, and collectives to submit EoI for a big milestone year!

What are we looking for?

The performance/theatre piece is more than 25 minutes in length and has a South Asian connection.

What is on offer?

6 days are split into 3 days of rehearsal plus a technical run and 3 shows, showcasing works at one of the best theatrical venues in Australia. 1 preview and 2 shows.

Where & When/Time?

Riverside Theatre, Parramatta in July 2025

What does the schedule/access look like?

Bump-in & Tech-ing on a Monday, dress run/rehearsal on Wednesday – 3 x Shows on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Total up to 80 hours of staffing and venue staff, a world-class facility, and a supportive team.

Nautanki Theatre Co has the biggest reach amongst the South Asian diaspora having served for the last 12+ years. We believe in true collaboration. Our newsletter and social media posts reach 10,000+ every month. There is no one size fitting, so we’ll design the publicity & campaign with you.

Plus offer…?

Box office split and/or salary to be discussed. Offer varies on content & programming.

Anything else…?

Yes, from 2025, Nautanki Theatre will plug in your maiden work to various other producers and companies through our networks creating opportunities for more shows. If you want to establish your company/banner/brand/collective then Nautanki will consider supporting you with a 3-year commitment.

If selected, you’ll pay a $500 refundable deposit by 30th May.
